Visit Petrovac

Petrovac is a very small city, surrounded by olive groves and pine forests, situated in a picturesque bay, only 17 km away from Budva. Although the town is not big as other touristic destinations in Montenegro, it is still very popular among tourists who prefer a quiet and calm holiday.

Petrovac is a city with a rich and interesting history. The first habitants settled here in the 3d century A.D., that is according to the Roman mosaics, which Petrovac is surely famous for.
Later on the settlement got the name of Castel Lastva in the 16-18th centuries and was renamed to Petrovac only in the 20th century.
It is now very attractive to tourists from all over the world, for its fresh air from the pine and olive groves, clear blue water, a variety of pebble beaches that give the opportunity for an unforgettable family holiday.

Where to stay in Petrovac?

The city itself offers 5 main hotels and also a big variety of private accommodation. You can always choose whether to stay in the city, from any place of which it is only a 10 minute walk to the seashore, or to spend your holiday in the nearby settlements – Lucica and Buljarice, which are also famous for their calmness, clean beaches and fresh healthy air.

Petrovac is situated only 17 km from Budva and 21 km from Bar, so in any case public transport or the numerous taxies can easily take you to any other popular touristic destinations of Montenegro.

What to do in Petrovac?

Though being a small town, Petrovac offers a great variety of activities and places to see.
First of all you must visit the three main beaches the town has. The central beach, located directly in the city, is famous for its red colored pebble. The Lucica beach is located only 800 meters from the city center and is well known for its sky blue water and the surrounding of tall pine trees which hang over raw cliffs. It is truly one of the most beautiful beaches in Montenegro. From the Lucica beach there is a beautiful walking path to the nearby Buljarice beach, which is one of the longest beaches on the coast, its length is 4 km. It is surrounded by wetland which is home for numerous migrant birds.

  • The pier and the Castello fortress, which served as a storehouse for wine and olive oil in the past, and now is a historical monument with a beautiful terrace that offers you a great view of the sunsets.
  • The obelisk, built in the memory of those who died fighting the fascists during World War II
  • The small islands of Katic and Sveti Nedelja, which are believed to protect the sailors. The legend says that the little church built on the island was a present from the sailors who survived a shipwreck. It is popular to go up to the church and to ring its bell – that will surely bring you luck and happiness.
  • The old Rezevici monastery. You can take the picturesque path leading from the town to the monastery. It is surrounded by pines and evergreen trees, has caves, and observation points which offer you a tremendous view of the sea and islands. The monastery was built in the 14th century and is famous for its mosaics.
