Itinerary
Visit: Kotor – UNESCO World’s Heritage Site
We drive half an hour through the Grbalj valley to the medieval town Kotor. Its location in the most beautiful bay in the Mediterranean Sea and the impressive medieval Old town were reason why UNESCO included this town into the list of the World`s Heritage Sites. Well preserved 4,5 km long wall was protecting this town of the pirates, nowadays it is a challenge to the visitors who desire to reach its highest point- San Giovanni fortress. Once you enter the Old town through the Sea Gate, the old Clock Tower will welcome you and tell you that you are right on time to explore the charming streets and squares of this wealthy town. Passing by the palaces of the noble families, you will feel the spirit of Venetian culture and architecture. Suddenly the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, patron and protector of Kotor, will appear in front of you and amaze you with its simple beauty. Only few steps further there is the Maritime museum, home of the long naval history and tradition of Kotor and the whole Boka bay.
After guided tour through the Old town Kotor, you will have plenty of time to wonder around, enjoy the cup of coffee on the main square or even visit Green market near the Sea gate.
The excursion continues along the curvy road on the steep slopes of Mount Lovcen up to a belvedere at 900 m above sea level. The higher we drive, the more spectacular views to the Boka bay you will enjoy, one of 25 most beautiful in the world.
The famous British writer and poet, Lord Gordon Byron said: “The most beautiful contact between the earth and sea took place at the Montenegrin littoral”.
Snack in Njegusi village
The curvy road continues to the Njegusi village, so-called smaragdine valley hidden deep in the stony terrain of Lovcen, the cradle of bishops and rulers from the Petrovic Dynasty. We make a half-hour stop at the restaurant to taste the famous Njegusi cheese, smoked ham, mead and wine.
A journey through “the sea of stone” leads to Cetinje the Old Royal capital of Montenegro, a place that has best preserved the spirit and tradition of the Montenegrin people.
Visit: Budva – Old town shaped of stones and sea by sounds of Orpheus’s lyra
Budva is the country's most popular tourist destination and boast some great beaches as well as a lovely, walled town centre. The old town centre is picturesquely located on a rather small peninsula, and its narrow, winding lanes hide a multitude of historic buildings, churches and small squares. Among the most interesting monuments here are the 7th century St. John's Church, the 8th century Santa Marija of Punta and the 12th century Church of St. Sava. The medieval town fortress is referred to as Citadela and right next to it is the colourful Church of the Holy Trinity, built in 1804. Budav's over 30 km long Riviera has been called 'The Riviera of Sandy Beaches' and is dotted with lovely hamlets and a wealth of historic monuments. A strip of hotels and restaurants separates it from the impressive mountain massifs of Lovcen. From Budva, it's an easy bus ride to the unique Sveti Stefan resort.
