One of the most beautiful and easily accessible of most mountain ranges in northern Montenegro is Bjelasica, a part of the National Park Biogradska gora. Bjelasica is the greenest mountain in Montenegro and is very rich in water. Its geological features are of volcanic origins, with smooth round shapes, differing from most of Montenegro`s mountains of calcareous composition abounding in karst forms.

The National park Biogrdaska gora is one of three well- preserved virgin forests, unique in the Balkans. A large number of mountain lakes, rivers, streams, meadows and mountain cottages offer an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty of Northern Montenegro, the way of life and customs of the local people.

Itinerary

The excursion includes a bus ride to the town Kolasin. After passing the capital Podgorica, we continue on the road that runs through the breathtaking canyon Moraca. Moraca runs from its spring in the central part of Montenegro, between the mountains that rich up the height up to 2.280 m, direction south through Podgorica into the Skadar lake. From its spring until Podgorica Moraca flows through rocky, conglomerate, and partly forested canyon with varying depth.

From the foot of the mountain Bjelasica Kolasin you will be driven by jeep to a traditional mountain village. The small mountain huts, former houses of the herdsmen, scatter over the meadow at the height of 1.750 m above the sea level. Fortify yourself for the activities ahead with an extensive, typical Montenegrin breakfast, after which a few hours’ jeep ride starts.
We drive along the slopes of Bjelasica mountain to make several side trips to beautiful mountain lakes and enjoy the spectacular views from the observation point at the height of 2.000 meters above sea level. The breaks in between can be used for a walk or taking pictures of the pristine scenery of untouched nature.

We return to the village, where lunch with local home-made specialties- roast lamb and potatoes will be waiting for us.
The drive back to your hotel will be in the afternoon.
